Frequently asked questions

Fish tape

How to choose the most suitable fish tape for each installation

Which fish tape is most suitable for my installation?

The one that covers the required distance, adapting to the characteristics of the installation and the pipe diameter, overcoming bends and moving around already installed cables, etc.

What are the advantages of different fish tape materials (nylon, steel, fibreglass and polyester)?

The different materials offer different levels of durability, friction, and pushing and twisting strength.

What is the difference between a Ø 3.5 mm and a 6 mm Ø fish tape?

If they are made of the same material, the difference is basically the turning diameter and the pushing strength.

Why does fish tape have fixed, mixed or interchangeable terminals?

Fixed terminals are fitted to fish tapes at the lower end of the range, while using mixed or interchangeable terminals offers many more possibilities for working thanks to the wide range of pushing and pulling accessories.

In the case of industrial fish tape, what is the difference between flat band steel, round steel cable and fibreglass?

For large distances, fibreglass fish tape is the best option in terms of friction and twisting and pushing strength. On the other hand, is the one that requires the most care because it can break if not handled properly.

In the case of industrial fish tape, what is the difference between vertical and horizontal containers?

There are only a very few horizontal containers in the ESTIARE container range. With their brake for preventing accidental unwinding of fish tape, drum tilt support and accessories rack, vertical containers can accommodate fish tapes with a larger diameter and greater lengths, allowing easier transport thanks to carrying handles and wheel axles incorporated in some models.

How to optimize the use of fish tape

Why are there so many different heads for fish tape? How are they used? What are they for?

To optimise the work of the installer, allowing them to overcome all kinds of turning angles and obstacles, thanks to the flexibility and size of the head, and to pull the cables with a traction hole if necessary.

Can I repair a fish tape that has broken in half?

Yes, fibreglass fish tape can be repaired using the different repair accessories and fibre adhesive.

If the terminal has fallen off a fish tape, can it be repaired?

Yes, using the terminal repair kits.

I want to pull more cables, how do I do it?

You can pull cable bundles using the pulling grip, a safe tool with high strength and durability.

How can lubricants improve the performance of the fish tape?

How is lubricant gel is used?

Using a sponge, spread the lubricant gel along the cables to be installed.

Can you put lubricant in a pipe that already has cable?

It is preferable to use the lubricating foam that penetrates about two meters inside the pipe after apply it at its mouth, to then push the new cable through.

Is it necessary to disconnect the power to put lubricant in a tube that already has cable?

It is best done as a precaution because the gel is a fluid water-based lubricant.

What is the shelf life of lubricating gel and foam?

About two years under normal conditions of storage.

What are the advantages of lubricant foam?

Basically, easy application, since it just needs to be applied directly into the mouth of the pipes rather than being manually spread over the cables.
